We invite you to join us and become member of the Czech and Slovak Cultural Center of Minnesota that has just been established to expand mutual understandings between the people of Minnesota and the Czech and Slovak Republics through a wide variety of programs and events. The creation of this Center was an outcome of the visit of President Vaclav Havel who challenged us to help support a “civil society” here and abroad and to develop deeper understanding between the United States and newly liberated countries of Central Europe. Because his legacy has become even more important now than ever before we have focused the organization about:
- Relationships with other Czech and Slovak organizations; with other Central European countries; with other European countries; and with all Americans
- Understanding small countries of this world that have great difficulties to enter and to remain in the cognitive consciousness of super powers.
- Knowledge in our information society knowledge about others – and their knowledge about us – are more important than ever.
By joining the Center, you will help enhance the activities of existing Czech and Slovak organizations; develop and sustain new cultural, artistic and social programs; create opportunities for learning; build relationships that promote civil society; help fill a void in knowledge and understanding; and create destination for people interested in Central Europe.
As a member of the CSCC, your benefits will include
- Reduced admission to CSCC events, with first preference when attendance is limited
- Access to information and news on the CSCC Web page
- Members-only occasional bulletins and news briefs
- Voice in governance of the CSCC and its programs
- And most importantly, the satisfaction of promoting the mutual interests of Minnesotans, Czechs, and Slovaks and making a difference in their lives
Think of your membership donation as treating the people of the Czech and Slovak Republics to a symbolic cup of coffee once a month – only the programs will produce much more than hospitality.
The strategic plan being developed will be based on
- need to respond to changing nature of ethnicity and impact of globalization
- recognition that programs of non-profit organizations must become more professional and efficient
- cooperation with many relevant organizations (the plans being developed cannot be accomplished by ourselves alone), and
- deep commitment to democracy, civil society and market economy
We are a non-profit organization, serving as resource for Minnesotans interested in Central Europe and as point of contact for people from Czech and Slovak Republics.
